Depression Therapy in Phoenix & Arizona Telehealth

Depression doesn't always look like not being able to get out of bed.

You might still be going through the motions — showing up to work, answering messages, checking the boxes — while feeling hollow inside. Depression doesn't always look like not being able to get out of bed. Sometimes it looks like numbness, disconnection, or a quiet sense that joy is just out of reach.

If you've been living with a persistent low, a loss of meaning, or a feeling that you've disappeared from your own life, you're not alone — and you don't have to white-knuckle your way through it.

Depression is not a Moral failure.

From a trauma- and attachment-informed perspective, depression often develops in response to loss — loss of safety, connection, self, or hope. It can be the nervous system's way of shutting down when the emotional burden has become too great to carry consciously.

In therapy, we don't simply target symptoms or try to "fix" your mood. We work to understand what your depression is protecting you from, what unprocessed grief or pain may be underneath, and how to gently restore your sense of self and connection to life.

How therapy for Depression Works here

Depression therapy at Philoxenia is relational, compassionate, and never rushed. We begin by building trust — understanding your emotional history, attachment patterns, and the ways depression has shaped how you relate to yourself and others.

Using approaches such as Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), somatic awareness, and trauma-informed care, sessions focus on:

  • Gently exploring the emotional roots beneath depression

  • Rebuilding a relationship with your own emotional experience

  • Reducing self-blame, shame, and internalized criticism

  • Restoring a felt sense of connection — to yourself, to others, to meaning

When past trauma is contributing to depression, EMDR may be incorporated gently and intentionally — always with your consent and at a pace that honors your readiness.

What you can Expect in sessions

Therapy for depression is not about motivational pep talks or being told to think positively. Sessions are a space where your experience is taken seriously — where you can slow down, say what's actually true, and begin to make sense of what's happening beneath the surface.

Progress often looks like:

  • Moments of lightness, curiosity, or presence returning

  • Greater emotional fluency and less numbness

  • Reduced self-criticism and inner harshness

  • A renewed sense of meaning, agency, and connection

Healing from depression is not linear, and it is not about becoming a different person. It is about returning to yourself.

this may be a good fit if…

Individual therapy for depression may be helpful if you:

  • Feel persistently low, empty, numb, or hopeless

  • Have lost interest in things that once brought meaning or joy

  • Struggle with self-worth, self-criticism, or feelings of worthlessness

  • Have a history of trauma, loss, or relational wounds that may be contributing

  • Want therapy that is compassionate, depth-oriented, and not dismissive

You don't need to have "a reason" to be depressed in order to deserve support. Your suffering is valid — and healing is possible.

My signature process

I offer individual therapy at $175 per hour, using an emotion-focused approach integrated with EMDR for trauma processing. Moving forward is as simple as one, two, three—and each step is intentionally designed to honor your story and bring you closer to the healing you're seeking.

01

connect

Our first three sessions are about building the trust that makes real therapy possible. I take time to understand you holistically—your emotional world, attachment patterns, window of tolerance, and how your past may be showing up in your present. I'll thoughtfully screen for anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and explore early life experiences. This foundation isn't rushed—I want you to feel truly seen and safe.

02

planning

Together, we'll design your personalized treatment plan. This isn't something I hand to you—it's something we create collaboratively. Drawing from evidence-based approaches, we'll identify realistic milestones that honor your pace and your life. Your plan is entirely individualized, shaped by your unique needs, strengths, and vision for yourself. You'll always know where we're headed and why it matters.

03

heal

This is where the deep work unfolds. We'll expand your window of tolerance, deepen your understanding of your emotional experience, and when trauma is present, process it through EMDR. The goal is genuine, lasting healing—the kind that leads to self-understanding, acceptance, and freedom to live more fully. Every session builds intentionally on the one before, bringing you closer to your goals.
