Most churches don't set out to cause harm. But good intentions don't prevent it.

Trauma happens in faith communities — through leadership dynamics, shame-based teaching, mishandled disclosures, and cultures that prioritize reputation over the wellbeing of the people inside them. The question isn't whether your church is immune. It's whether your church is prepared.

I work with churches and faith organizations to build the awareness, language, and practical capacity to become genuinely trauma-informed — not as a liability response, but as a reflection of what you actually believe about people.

Who This Is For

This work is for executive pastors, church administrators, and organizational leaders who are ready to move beyond good intentions — and want a practical, clinically grounded path to getting there.

You might be here because something happened and you're responding. Or because you want to build something strong before it does. Either starting point is valid. The work is the same.

Ways to Work Together

Self-Paced Course (coming soon)

The lowest-commitment starting point. Designed for church staff and leadership teams to build a foundational understanding of trauma, how it operates in congregational life, and what a trauma-informed response actually looks like. Work through it individually or as a team.

Organizational Trauma Audit

A structured assessment of your church or organization's culture, policies, and practices through a trauma-informed lens. Includes interviews, review of existing materials, and a written report with prioritized recommendations. Designed for organizations serious about understanding where they are — and what needs to change.

Live Training & Speaking Engagements

A half-day or full-day training for your staff, leadership team, or congregation. Topics include: what trauma-informed ministry looks like in practice, how to respond well when harm is disclosed, understanding religious trauma from a clinical perspective, and building a culture of genuine care. Available in-person or virtually.

Ongoing Consultation

For organizations that have completed a training or audit and want sustained support as they implement changes — or for leadership teams navigating an active situation that requires ongoing clinical perspective. Available on a monthly retainer or project basis.

What Trauma-Informed Actually Means

Trauma-informed gets used as shorthand for a lot of things. In this context it means something specific:

  • Your staff can recognize signs of trauma responses — in congregants, and in each other

  • Your policies and practices don't inadvertently re-traumatize people who come to you for care

  • When harm is disclosed, your leadership knows how to respond in a way that protects the person, not just the organization

  • Your culture rewards honesty over managed appearances

This isn't about becoming a therapy practice. It's about building an organization that doesn't make things worse for the people inside it.

FAQs

Does this mean you'll tell us what to believe theologically?

No. My work is clinically focused, not theological. I'm not here to change your doctrine — I'm here to help your organization understand how trauma operates and how to respond to it competently.

We haven't had an incident. Is this still relevant?

Yes. And proactive work is significantly more effective than reactive work. Organizations that build trauma-informed cultures before a crisis are better equipped to prevent harm, respond well when something surfaces, and retain the trust of their community.

How long does this take?

It depends on where you're starting and what you're trying to build. A single training is a half day. An audit typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. Ongoing consultation is structured around your organization's pace and needs. The first step is a discovery call where we figure out what makes sense for your situation.

Becoming trauma-informed isn't a single event. But it starts with a decision — and then a conversation.
